"worldwide exchange" is slightly different today because we're analyzing the first german gdp numbers. >> and i come to the u.s. where it's all annualized and we stick to the european data and it's quarter on quarter. given the context, we're still working through what all that means. >> exports in november, down 94.1 billion is where we essentially went. 98.4 billion was the october numbers. so exports in november driving down. and that gdp number is worth pulling out. exports for the year, up 4.1%. as far as production is concerned, it was up 2% in november.

of the week. in eesh ya, we kick off the global markets. hi, li sixuan. >> hello, ross. bourses kicked off the second trading week of the year. the shanghai composite gained a modest .4% to end at the highest level since june 2012. health care stocks staved a strong rebound after medical innovation was urged over the weekend. in the hong kong market, offsetting weakness. the hang seng ended near it's 19-month high. elsewhere, we saw profit taking and japanese exporters after a week of normality. in south korea, the kospi ended flat. but automakers managed to bounce back after recent sell-offs. the australian markets pulled back after the recent rally. this after media release create ago funding withdraw proving to be faint. sensex now trading lower by .1%. >> thank you so much. we're weighted to the down side by 7 to 3. but european stocks starting the day in first new highs for banks. not the best christmas trading update today. the xetra dax you was up .1% on friday. currently down .4%. the ibex is fairly flat. it was up about .5%, as well. and the ftse mib is up abo about .2%

>>> headline low. this is today's "worldwide exchange." i'm ross westgate. here with your headlines from around the world. the dollar treasury yields continue to prove surprisingly hawkish among concerns of some about the bank qe program. that may add more to today's strange jobs report which led to spectacular hiring growth. meanwhile, here in europe, composite pmi shows manufacturing in contraction territory. we'll look ahead to uk services pmi in under half an hour. this after the hsbc in china shows a slowdown the lowest since august 2011. >> warm welcome to you. 47.8, services pmi. it marked a five-month high. that mean the composite number has picked up slightly. the final composite number confirmed at 47.2, a little weaker than 47.3 flash, 46.5 in november. it is nevertheless the high since march. perhaps some tentative signs emerging that the eurozone economy may have passed the worst of its downturn, although recovery still looks months away. the december services business expectations up 52.5. it was 52.6 in the flash to slightly weaker on that particular point. let's get

are lots of risks from this. appreciate both of you being with us. ross, let's start with you. house republicans balan s balkes deal. hard to see how republicans can get much of a better deal now. how so? >> look, republicans lost the last election. they don't control the white house, they don't control the senate. the bush tax cuts were going to expire no matter what. the president had campaigned pretty much consistently, repetitively and so on on an upper class tax hike of some kind, so you were always going to have a situation where you had 700 billion, 800 billion in tax increases no matter what. give that they could negotiate the threshold upward is pretty much as good a deal republicans were going to get. frankly not a good deal in any cosmic sebs for republicans but giving the correlation of forces facing them, not a bad deal to walk away with especially since it's a bad sign for the democrats going forward that they needed to move the threshold that the president had campaigned on upward to 400,000. a sign that democrats are still quite uncomfortable voting for tax inc
